Lina Xu

Ms. Lina Xu is a Fellow of the Society of ActuariesandaPh.D.in Applied Mathematics and Computational Science. She has taught mathematics, statistics, actuarial science and actuarial exam seminars for over 20 years. She has extensive insurance industry experience in valuation, pricing, modeling, enterprise risk management, etc., and has worked in the reinsurance, insurance, and consulting businesses for over 16 years.

Lina is the Director of the M.S. in Actuarial Science program at Columbia University and has been this role since September2013,but has been an adjunct professor in the program since spring 2010. Prior to taking up these roles, Lina joined Athene Annuity as a Pricing Actuary in November2012.

Among her earlier appointments, she was an Associate Director of Valuation and Financial Reporting at Guggenheim. She was also a Director of VA Financial Modeling at Prudential. Lina had also worked for Sun Life, AIG and RGA in various roles. She was an assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at Fujian Normal University in China over five years before coming to the US.

Lina has been actively involved with the SOA, IAA, and other actuarial associations as well as in academia, research and lecturing. She is President of the Chinese Actuarial Club (CAC) of Greater Philadelphia. She was a council member of the international section of the SOA for the term2010-2013and is a friend to many actuarial associations. She has written numerous papers and has presented topics related to Actuarial Science at many international companies and insurance organizations.
