Call for Papers and $10,000 SCOR Actuarial Award in Asia The Singapore Actuarial Society (SAS) invites you to submit papers for presentation at the 17th East Asian Actuarial Conference (17th EAAC) which will be held from 15 – 18 October 2013 at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore. The event’s main theme is “Redefining Risk, Creating Value”. The conference is open to actuaries from all practice areas and actuarial societies worldwide, and we are expecting over 500 delegates at the event. The EAAC is a great event to meet other actuaries from various countries, socialise and exchange thoughts on issues in the region as well as ideas on how to improve the industry and the profession. In addition to the parallel and plenary sessions, we are pleased to announce that Mr Lee Boon Ngiap, Assistant Managing Director of the Banking & Insurance Group at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, will open the conference. Additionally, keynote address will be delivered by Professor Robert L. Brown, President-Elect of the International Actuarial Association (IAA). The Society is inviting timely, relevant and high-quality presentation contributions from you for the parallel sessions on the topics with particular relevance to Asia. Contributions are sought from all actuarial practice areas, including General Insurance, Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Risk Management or any other topics that may be relevant to the actuarial profession particularly across Asian markets. We estimate that there will be time for 32 parallel session presentations of 40 minutes duration each, plus some time for questions and answers. The attendance fee for one speaker in each session will be waived. Wherever possible, accepted papers will be distributed in advance of the conference. Authors/ presenters (presenters) may produce their papers either in traditional text document format or in presentation format. For those papers produced in presentation format, we would stress that the content should contain sufficient technical detail to allow printed copies of the slides to be used as reference materials by the delegates. The presentations will also be published on the SAS website at a later date. By submitting the presentation slides to the EAAC, the presenters will be deemed to have given permission to publish. Depth of Content We plan to break down presentations into Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced categories, and depending on quality of submissions, would like to accept papers covering more Intermediate and Advanced topics and concepts. We would highly encourage academic papers as well as working parties from various actuarial bodies to present topics of interest involving research on market issues and trends. However, clarity of communication should also be kept in mind. A list of sample topics can be found in Appendix (this list is by no means exhaustive). SCOR Actuarial Award in Asia - 2013 Full-length papers will be eligible to be considered for the SCOR Actuarial Award in Asia – 2013 of $10,000, proudly sponsored by SCOR Group.
